Growing up in central Wisconsin brings out the best in a person. I have so many memories of playing outside and using my imagination to make up games with my brother, Jason Dohe, and our neighborhood friends. One memory in particular that stands out is when we would make forts in the back yard and then play cop and robbers. Thinking back I am sure my dad loved this game because we would rake the backyard to make our forts ☺.
This early exposure to nature had influenced my hobbies today. One of my favorite hobbies is walks with the dogs. I find that the fresh air and noises of nature are calming and often bring a joy to my day. Now this becomes tricky when you live in Wisconsin because as many people know, it can be 65 degrees one day and snowing the next! But that is what makes living up here fun.
Another one of my hobbies is being out on the water. There is something about the sound and the feel of water that is calming to me. When I was in high school I competed in freestyle and butterfly mainly. I worked hard and was on the Varsity team all four years of school. Not only did this sport give me a healthy lifestyle but it taught me discipline and hard work.
I used these skills and joined the Wisconsin National Guard as a medic. I am currently still in and reside as the head medic of the 173rd Battalion. I have been a medic my whole career and truly enjoy working with the Soldiers and the Veterans at the VA.
One thing that I value the most is family and compassion. I have grown up with family all around me and believe in that strong family unit. I am so grateful that Leon and I met that sunny July afternoon at the Melting Pot and. I knew we had an immediate connection and instantly fell in love with his smile, intellect and humor. Little did I know my whole world would be changed forever and I would be granted the gift of family once again!
